Ensuring Road Worker Safety at Traffic Logistics
At Traffic Logistics the safety of our road workers is a fundamental concern, especially in light of recent insights from the "Roads Australia - Road Worker Safety Industry Guideline". These insights highlight the significant risks our workers encounter daily.
Road workers often find themselves in hazardous conditions due to factors like speeding and non-compliance with road signs, as well as direct confrontations with the public. Such behaviours endanger not only our staff but also the general public. A survey conducted by NTRO with over 1,100 industry professionals has highlighted speeding and the disregard for road signs as major threats, emphasising the need for immediate action. Adding to this, disturbing statistics from Austroads reveal that on average, road worksites experience 18 fatal worksite crashes and 245 serious injury crashes each year.
Taking Action
In an effort to mitigate these risks, Traffic Logistics has initiated several key actions:
- Enhanced Training: We are implementing extensive safety training for all employees, with a focus on situational awareness and emergency response.
- Advanced Technology: We are incorporating cutting-edge technology for real-time digitisation of work zones and traffic management, enhancing team coordination and response capabilities.
- Community Engagement: By partnering with local communities and authorities, we aim to raise public awareness about the risks of ignoring roadwork signs and speed limits.
- Policy Advocacy: Backed by the collaborative efforts of the Altus Group, we collaborate with industry leaders and policymakers to push for tighter enforcement of traffic laws around work zones.
At Traffic Logistics, enhancing the safety of our road workers remains our priority. Our strategies are grounded in detailed data analysis and adhere to industry best practices as recommended in the "Roads Australia - Road Worker Safety Industry Guideline" to ensure the well-being of every road worker every day.
